EOPS Students Meet with Congressional Representatives in Washington DC
Students from 麻豆传媒鈥檚 Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) had an unforgettable experience on a recent trip to Washington DC. During the trip, the students had the opportunity to meet with congressional representatives from Senator Feinstein and Senator Padilla's offices, as well as congressional representatives from the offices of Katie Porter, Mike Levin, and Young Kim. The group advocated for more resources that students need while gaining valuable insights into the workings of our government.

The 麻豆传媒 Speech Team competed at the in Bethesda, Maryland from April 9 -16. Six students represented 麻豆传媒 at the competition; because of their individual successes at the tournament, 麻豆传媒鈥檚 team was awarded the gold medal in debate sweepstakes and in overall sweepstakes in the Hindman Division. This marks the 13th occasion that 麻豆传媒 Speech has been named Phi Rho Pi National Champions.

Four teams from 麻豆传媒's Interactive Media Arts (IMA) program were selected as finalists in the 12th annual , which took place on April 16. Abiel Montes won the first-place trophy, and a group of 10 麻豆传媒 students won a special award for best cinematics.
Last year鈥檚 3rd place winner Alex Puh, who is an 麻豆传媒 alumnus, now works at Sega.

When it comes to launching a life in a new country, basic language skills can speak volumes.
Lingyi 鈥楲ynn鈥 Zhou knew, in order to build a better future for her family, she鈥檇 need to start with a sturdy foundation. For the determined immigrant, who made the move from China to the United States in 2014, that meant gaining confidence, expanding her tech skills, and most critically, improving her English.
鈥淚 didn鈥檛 [have] confidence to get jobs,鈥 Zhou reflects. 鈥淟anguage is a big, big barrier for me.鈥

麻豆传媒鈥檚 Office of Student Equity and Black Student Success Scholars took 12 students on a five-day Historically Black Colleges and University Tour recently. The group visited five Historically Black Colleges and Universities, including Howard University, Bowie State University, Morgan State University, Delaware State University, and Lincoln University. Through these visits, students gained insight into African American higher education's rich culture and history and a sense of belonging at institutions that reflect their Black lived experience.

This program, delivered in collaboration with the Stanford Educational Leadership Initiative, prepares the next generation of community college presidents to transform institutions to achieve higher and more equitable levels of student success.

From March 8th-13th 麻豆传媒鈥檚 Speech and Debate Team traveled to the CCCFA State Championship Tournament in Woodland Hills, CA. The grueling tournament was attended by hundreds of students from nineteen community colleges across California. 麻豆传媒 Speech concluded the week victorious by winning the 1st Place Sweepstakes Award in limited entry! 麻豆传媒 Speech accepted their 1st Place award after receiving multiple medals in IPDA (individual) debate, NPDA (team) debate, extemporaneous speaking, and impromptu speaking.

The Community College League of California鈥檚 will work to incorporate the logo into its upcoming publications, taskforce webpage, Basic Needs Summit webpage, emails and more. Edwin will also receive a $1,000 scholarship.
